Vineyards

Since 1970, Freemark Abbey Winery has produced Cabernet Bosche, one of California's
first vineyard-designated wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, owned by the John
Bosche family, is well-known for producing wines of distinctive character and excellent
quality.
Located 1/4 mile north of the town of Rutherford, where the vineyards meet the western
foothills and the environment is near perfect, the neighborhood is prestigious indeed.
The area is considered ideal with its silty clay loam and gravelly soil. "It's a little
pocket on the west side of the creek. I think it's the soil and location that do it," John
Bosche has been quoted as saying. The Cabernet is blended with a small percentage of Merlot
from the vineyard and this combination continually proves to be a delicious taste experience.
Yielding approximately 3500 cases from its 21.4 acres, Cabernet Bosche is assured a long
cellar life with the tannins softening with age.
