Brilliant pale straw color, this elegant chardonnay exemplifies the terroir of the Keyes vineyard with a unique flinty nuance.  The fruit has a subtle expression of green apple, green banana and white peach.  The barrel fermentation coupled with aging sur lie, added viscosity, creaminess and depth to this wine.  The oak is well integrated in a very nice balance that adds a hint of vanilla and a nuance of angel food. With a very long finish, this wine has flavor similar to honey dew melon, the acidity is well balance.

Vineyard Notes

100% Keyes Vineyard-Howell Mountain. Located near the town of Angwin, at roughly 1850 ft elevation, this Howell Mtn vineyard sits adjacent to the Las Posadas State Forest. The mountainous soil is predominantly volcanic, shallow with low fertility producing Chardonnay that expresses citrus and stone fruit flavors with a crispness and distinct minerality.

Production Notes

Abundant winter rains helped refresh the groundwater and our reservoirs.  Bud break was a little late, the vines responded to the water and moderate spring weather with plenty of growth.  Good weather prevailed during bloom giving us an even fruit set.  The summer was fairly moderate, with plenty of sun during the day and marine influences during the night.  The harvest was near ideal with average timing and crop size.
