Description
Crafted by winemaker emeritus Ted Edwards, who was the winemaker in 2002, this 95-point wine is deep and brooding. Made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it underwent a 24-hour cold soak, stainless steel fermentation, and aging in French oak for two years. Black fruit aromas of blackberries, boysenberries, black currant and dark cherries invite you in, followed by hints of cinnamon, clove, dark chocolate and lavender. The long, mild growing season that year, capped off by a warming trend, created concentrated fruit flavors in the final blend. One smooth sip reveals dark cherry notes, reminiscent of a dark chocolate-cherry truffle, yet not sweet. Resisting a second glass is nearly impossible as the 2002 vintage is drinking perfectly now.  Only 2,477 cases made.
